CGS-GEOFOND

Czech Geological Survey-Geofond is a state-funded organization established by the Ministry of the Environment (MoE).     

Its main purpose is to function as the state geological survey (collecting, processing and providing information related to the geological structure, geohazards, protection and use of mineral and groundwater resources) of the Czech Republic, according to § 17 of Act No. 62/1988 on Geological Work (Geological Act).

Tasks stipulated by law

  • §§ 7, 12 and 13 of Act No. 62/1988 on Geological Work
  • §§ 8, 15 and 35 of Act No. 44/1988 on the Protection and Use of Mineral Resources 
  • Agreement on the use of Geofond CR services (File No. M/140/1997) between the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Industry and Trade 

Collection and provision of information related to:

  • the geological structure of the state territory,
  • geohazards (incl. impacts of mine workings),
  • the protection and exploitation of mineral and groundwater resources.
