Reclaimed Areas

In 1996, the Ministry of the Environment decided to create a new database of areas affected by mining. The effects of mining had not yet been monitored systematically, and records were limited to those compiled during 1983-1989 by the former Czechoslovak Ceramics Company for areas affected by mining of ceramics and glass materials. After much consultation, a new structure was proposed for the database, and the necessary information was incorporated in the newly established state statistical compilation Hor(MPO)1-01.

In 1999, a separate new database of areas affected by mining, remediated areas, areas under reclamation and revitalized areas was created. The data refate to areas of individual claims and to deposits of non-reserved minerals within a given calendar year.

The information recorded is as follows :
  • Areas affected by mining,
  • Remediated areas,
  • Reclaimed areas
  • Financial reserves for remediation,
  • Reclamations and mining damage.

The resulting information and surveys of the effects mining, remediation, reclamation and creation of financial reserves are compiled in the form of a printed spreadsheet. These are the so-called "individual data", and they provide only a summary review. Complete data are supplied only to organizations on the list approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Written statements connected with these matters are pepared in the department of information about the area. Requests can be sent either by mail to the offices of Geofond in Prague, by e-mail to geofond@geofond.cz or directly to Ing. Hájková CSc.
