History

The "Geological Fund" was founded on 17 June 1952 in the Central Geological Survey on the basis of a goverment decree. It was designed as an archive for all unpublished literature in geology. By decision of the president of the Czech Geological Office No. 1 of 2 January 1975, the Geological Fund was detached from the Central Geological Survey under a new name "Geofond, thematic organization of the Czech Geological Office in Prague". After many changes in organization connected with the development of legislation and state administration, the original Geofond became the Czech Geological Survey - Geofond as of 1 April 2002 (for more information see the main menu "About us", (chapter History.)

The methods of registering of the stored reports and assessments, and the possibilities of their browsing are subject to permanent development. Although the original card register remains available to the visitors of the study room, it has not been updated since 2000. Instead, it has been completely replaced by the ASGI database (Automated System of Geological Information), which is available to the visitors of the study room and the website of the CGS-Geofond in the Application ASGI-browse.
