Important events:1990: After the CGU was dissolved on 1 July 1990, the responsibility for funding Geofond, a state funded organization, passed to the Ministry of the Environment of the CR (MZP).
1991: In 1991, Act No. 575/1990 Coll., on measures for the structure of central state-administrative bodies of the CR, transferred the duties of geological exploration and mining of minerals to the former Ministry of Economic Policy and Development (later known as the Ministry of Economy CR). In this regard, 20 staff members, supervising the registers of mineral deposits and geochemical exploration and the registration of geological works, were transferred to the state organisation ÚVTEI and on 1 July 1991, to the successor organization, the National Information Centre of the Czech Republic, as a separate unit (NIS CR - centre Geofond). Their tasks concerned the formulation of the national minerals policy.
Based on Decision No. 8/91 of the Minister of the Environment on 24 May 1991, the name of the organisation was changed to Geofond of the Czech Republic and its basic function and tasks were modified to act as an archival, documentation, information and study center of the geological service in the CR funded by the state. Along with the Czech Geological Survey (former Central Geological Survey), it was charged with providing geological service funded by the state.
1996 - 1998: The Ministry of Economy was abolished in 1996 pursuant to Act No. 272/1996 Coll. Its geological research duties passed to the MZP and its duties concerning the mineral policy and use of mineral deposits passed to the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO). Consequently, the NIS CR - centre Geofond was incorporated into Geofond CR on 1 January 1997. The Agreement on the use of Geofond was signed between the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, ensuring that Geofond carries out the duties of MPO.
